[Action]
[Incredulous adventures aside, Luke finds it difficult to adjust to the busier lifestyle that comes with school starting and warmer weather ending. It gets darker, colder, Luke grows lonelier. He's out and about in the autumn sun, off to his usual stop at the bakery (okay, okay, one of his three or four usual stops) when a brownish figure passes him going in the opposite direction.
Luke stops. Spinning left, he sees the figure retreating down the path the way he came, and though all logic tells him it can't be real, he takes off running after it.]
Professor! [Because there is no one else. It must be him.] Professor, wait! Just- hold on a minute, please!
[Luke did not realize a vision from the past could hurt so much. When Layton's back and top hat fade into a false mist and then nothingness, Luke has run himself all the way back across the village, nearer to the rec center. Out of breath and out of spirit, he sits down on a bench to stare at the dirt.
Today is awful.]

Jun. 11th, 2014 10:51 pm[Things in the village continue to move at molasses speeds, ever since the draft ended. Without school to keep him occupied, and with (shock and dismay) a wholly diminished interest in all things puzzle, what with all the sadness and walking on eggshells going on all over the place, he's been...practicing his violin, actually. No one in the house came after him pounding on the door, so it must not be that bad.
It was better, sometimes, than thinking about all the strangers who appeared (from the draft, he learned later) bloody and beaten up, or his friends, coming back with darkness in their eyes.
His plans for this day are tame, and come in two flavors:
In the morning he's at the stables, tending to the horses with the kind of affectionate banter and bounce in his step that he doesn't have many close friends to share with anymore. It's not so bad. Animals are, um, people too. But anyone else there might catch him whistling or seeming to talk to himself.
After lunch (Luke always has a long generous lunch - today he eats at Seventh Heaven) he heads into the school to the music room, balances the open journal on a spare music stand, and pulls his violin and bow out of their case to prepare and tune them.]
So, er. [It doesn't usually bother him to talk to the village but...this is a little different.] You know...I think maybe it's better if I don't say anything first.
[And, after one last, soft check of his pitch, Luke shuts his eyes and starts to play a song whose sheet music he found in the library months ago. It isn't very long, but he goes through it thrice: the first time quietly, too afraid to mess up to really play, and then twice after that. It's a little slow and a little sad but he doesn't feel sad when it's over.]
That's that, then. [Projected confidence or not, he's blushing pretty red on his end of the journal.] I sort of thought, um, that maybe somebody could use a little music.
[[ooc: shh shh pretend it's a violin in the track not a cello...]]

Jan. 13th, 2014 10:48 am[Fifteen.
Contrary to his nature, Luke rises early, gets himself ready, even tidies up his room - which is hardly messy to begin with. The last thing he does is place his stuffed penguin at the head of the bed, against his pillows, and hold down a sigh.
Hearing no other noise in the house, he puts on his hat and coat and heads for the stables. Best to use this early start to do something, and the horses are good company all around. He notices with some surprise that certain things, hanging on the stable walls, are easier for him to reach now than the last time he remembers struggling for them.
Once that's done, Luke considers and discards several now-too-lonely places: the bakery, the library, even the school. He spends a while in the tea shop, reading but not puzzling, and frowning at his tea. When that is too much of a strain he ambles to the bakery anyway, for a cupcake. Just one cupcake.
Which he promptly leaves in its bakery box on the edge of the fountain while he spends the afternoon trying to build a snow fort. There are already some odd half-finished sculptures around that he thinks he can use. Beside the box is his open journal; he stands over it for a while thinking about a message, before writing one (messy, because he wears mittens and the ink in the pen is cold too):]
Come play in the snow by the fountain. I'm making a fortress.
[[ooc: Pretend this is dated the 12th ok yes. Luke's arbitrary canonless birthday! /throws confetti. This is the part where I have no idea how to play a growing-up young man, but I promise to do my best.]]

Nov. 18th, 2013 11:43 am[Well, he's put it off for as long as he conceivably can. Luke pulls open his journal and speaks, not bothering with the business of filtering anything.]
I'm going to- [This is much harder than he thought, even after all the practice.] To...to move house, in with Firo and Seto. S-so...um, this house will be-
[Come on, Luke, you're nearing fifteen and this is not the time and a true gentleman never lets his most painful emotions show in public this way.]
House five is going to be empty. After today.
[With Layton's, Maiza's, and Czeslaw's stuff gone, he doesn't even have a lot to pack. It keeps him out of school for the day, though. Maybe saying all that could serve as enough of an apology to Professor Sage and Toph and everybody.
After a while, in the true and final emptiness of the house, he sits for a while in the kitchen, opening the journal again to write about something that has, historically, made him feel better; this time, there's a lot of melancholy in with the entertainment.]
Does anybody know a good puzzle?

Aug. 26th, 2013 12:36 pm[Sometimes, in the wake of a foundation-shattering event, all anyone can do is stare at what remains.
That is not true for Luke this time, and hasn't been in the entire two weeks since all of himself came rushing back. All things considered, he's been as upbeat and energetic as ever. Helpful, too - so many others seemed devastated in the aftermath, he felt and still feels like he ought to make up for it somehow.
The first thing he does with the free time in his Monday is go to the bakery and get a dozen of something. Donuts or cupcakes or similar things, anything sweet and delicious. Those treats are going to people he knows, if he can find them, especially the ones that haven't shown their faces of late.
Then it's time for the real substance of his day.
A puzzle.
He handwrites it out first, then reads it out for the benefit of anyone stymied on the writing front.]
A family gathers in a room for a party. In this family, there is a mother, a father, a son, a daughter, a brother, a sister, an auntie, an uncle, a niece, a nephew, and 2 cousins. However, there are only 4 people in the room. What are their relations to each other?

Mar. 8th, 2013 08:39 pm[Part 1
Homework on the weekends is just plain unfair! Luke chooses not to bring this up with his favorite teacher, however, opting instead to carry his notebook and papers and books to somewhere else to study. He considers the library, standing before its door for a while, but in the end he turns around and goes through the Welcome Center to the Tea Shop instead. The sense of bustle helps himget all distracted concentrate.
Plus, there's tea. He chooses an empty table and spreads out everything he'll need. As usual, this turns pretty quickly into him sitting there with a full cup of tea while he devises puzzles on paper or of paper. At the height of his distraction he builds a tower of folded paper cubes...and a gust of wind through the window scatters them all across the floor.
Then he's got to pick them up again.
Part 2
After all - or most - of his schoolwork is finished, Luke shoulders his bag and heads off to the stables. Just because Mr. Greg went home is no reason to slack in his responsibilities! He loves the horses and they tend to like him too. Besides, he brought carrots.
He greets any fellow stablehands and goes about his horsey business, picking up a rake to start on clearing one of the stalls. Of course, you've got to get the horse out of it first.
What happens next isn't quite clear to him once it's over; all he knows is that something spooked the horse and he managed to get out of the way before it kicked, and now he's on the ground with the rake's handle trapped beneath him. Pushing himself up again, he sees that the sound he heard must have been said handle half-snapping as he landed on it. Then he notices something else.
A bit shaky, he goes back to his bag and fumbles his journal out of it.]
I think there's...a bit of a problem... I'm at the- the stables and I fell and, uh...I might be hurt.
[Though he sounds unsure, it's the kind of unsure that really makes one sure.]
[[ooc: Go ahead. Break time. You know you want to. It'll be great. (Meaning, of course more than one person can find him at the tea shop/pick up papers with him/discover his fate in the stables. Have fun!)]]

Jan. 9th, 2013 07:07 pm[For some unfathomable reason, in all the stories Luke knows about fishermen, they go out at the crack of dawn to catch fish. That's not for him, no sir! He meanders along the river headed south to the lake at a decent hour, just after breakfast, intending to bring a gift to a dragon or two living in the village. It's cold but he doesn't seem to mind, bundled up and with a spring in his step. A few hours later, he returns bearing the scaly treats in a bucket, off to locate Hiccup and Astrid and their terrifying but awesome dragons.
That afternoon he works in the stables. After what feels like plenty of cleaning up and conversation, he realizes he might have a quiet moment alone and looks around. Nobody here. Good.
The boy completely forgets he left the journal open on a nearby stool, and so it records: Luke Triton, a little dirty and rough around the edges, turning with determined steps and pointing hard at...nothings.]
Aha! It's you! [Step, raise hand, point!] It's you! The guilty party... [Oh, he can almost hear the swish of authority as he turns and points at the book.] is you! Ha- ...Wait a minute... [Footsteps on dirt and straw draw closer, and then-]...Oh no!

Nov. 20th, 2012 11:26 pm[It's early in the morning, and there's a commotion. The village knows about this commotion because things are scattered in the scuffle, including Luke's journal. It thunks onto the floor of the apartment, open and 'on' enough to record...well.
The sounds of a scuffle.
Bangs and clangs and the occasional mechanical whirr or someone shouting (classic noir American accent or subtle/overt British one, take your pick!) and the end result is a nice, spread-out flurry of chaos.
In which one of the people living in the apartment is no longer there.
After a while, there are footsteps; it's Luke trudging over to pick up his journal and gingerly talk into it.]
Um. They came and...took Czes- Benjamin. [Not without a fight!] Maiza and Professor Layton and I tried to stop them, but it- it didn't work. Sorry. [...] Maybe he won't be gone for long.
[[ooc: Those replying may get an answer from Luke, Maiza, or Layton! Depends on who's got the journal at the moment, and who's off trying to clean up the mess in a dejected manner.]]

Oct. 15th, 2012 12:50 pm[All things considered, Luke has had better days.
It’s a strange and bothersome sort of Monday, isn’t it? No? Best check, because the child in the blue hat going from building to building armed with an array of chalks could end up bothering some a great deal.
What is he doing with the chalk? Well, to the extent that it is possible, all available flat vertical surfaces (within his reach, you understand) end up looking something like this. He has gone absolutely puzzle-mad. In the process of writing he circles buildings several times, dropping to the next line when he has gone around once.
Expecting to solve them? Good luck. Some are from memory but most are just words and numbers coming out of his head. The urge to write them all down is undefeatable. He ran out of paper – his apartmentmates will find the place strewn with loose pages covered in writing.
Good luck interrupting his puzzle-scrawling frenzy. He hasn't even stopped to eat.]
[[ooc: The result of a Katie-influenced desire to be creative in a visible fashion meeting Luke’s major source of creativity. Voila! Your walls are covered in puzzle.]]

Aug. 15th, 2012 10:49 am[Everyone around Luke is so sad lately. Some of the things he's heard about people going home are just heartbreaking.
It's hard to be sad about people leaving when no one from the world you belong to is here, particularly not anyone close. Instead, Luke has been trying to come up with a way to pass the time.]
Would anyone like to hear a puzzle? [Aware of how similar that sounds to someone he does miss, Luke winces a little and turns the book upright instead of flat.] I'll give everybody different ones this time, so you can't overhear the right answer and have it spoiled.
Or let's play a game! ...Uhm, but it is a puzzle game. Still, if we do it right everyone could play a little if they wanted to.
I'll give everyone a puzzle, and the first person to solve it with the right answer gets to give out the next one, for someone else to try to solve. We'll have to be careful about not stealing a chance from someone if we know the answer and they don't... [We. More like Luke will need to be careful.] But I want to try it! We'll just all have to be gentlemanly with each other.
Oh. Uh. And, um, ladylike. S-Sorry.
[[ooc: LET'S DO BOTH. There will be a thread in this post for the puzzle round robin, and anyone who would like to join in can do so! Luke will start, and the first correct guesser gets to post his/her own puzzle (in a new sub-thread under the 'puzzle game' heading, to help with keeping things noticeable!) for the group to try to solve next! This can keep going on, so if you miss out on one, no worries - just try for the next one! You are not limited to wordplay either; go ahead with math puzzles or images or anything, really, that is confounding and must be solved!
Luke will do his best not to just answer them all. He's solved a lot of puzzles.
If you'd like your character to just hear a puzzle of their own (or engage Luke in some one-on-one solving competition), then bypass the puzzle game thread and tag away.Secret vessel for my love of riddles and brainteasers go.]]

So...I-I know everybody's busy with all this [unseen, one hand gestures to the village around him, then covers his mouth while he sneezes] and I'm gonna help, I promise.
I just need somewhere to go. ...Aah, to stay, I suppose I mean. My room got really wrecked and it's not going back to the way it was. [Another sneeze, and a few coughs. Luke is stubbornly ignoring all these signs of "what an awful time to come down with something" because...in his dizzy head it might just be what a gentleman does. If necessary.]
It wouldn't be forever... [Sniff. He might like it to be, though, depending on who you are. Living alone is lonely.] Just for a little while, if it's all right.

In front of him is a book with a red cover, full of intermediate-level puzzles and riddles. There's a piece of paper beside it, on which he solves most of them - if they require paper.
There are a few interesting ones copied down into the journal, for reference later.

I wish I could go home.

[Puzzle 003]
Jan. 4th, 2012 01:38 pmDoes anyone want to help celebrate the new year with a puzzle? I made it up myself!
( Shapes and Lines )
[meanwhile he still needs things like a real place to live and such. Does that matter in the face of puzzles? ...Well, yes, actually. Luke's a fan, but not a maniac. He just doesn't know anyone well enough to think of living with them, or asking. Or...anything.
He will be at Seventh Heaven, chowing down for dinner. Boy can eat half a menu when he's hungry.]

[Puzzle 002]
Nov. 28th, 2011 10:08 am[Pisces: A drinking problem would make you more interesting. • Hide from those who mean to tickle you. • Your next Career: Sketch Artist • Your keys are missing.
Luke stares down at the words on the otherwise blank page. What's this supposed to be? The way his life is going to go? He'll start talking without thinking, because that is the best solution.]
Good thing I don't have any keys. ...Wait! Does this mean people are going to want to-? Uh-oh. I'd better hide!
[True to form, villagers will find Luke out and about, hiding behind various buildings and trees and perhaps other people. Unless he is in the middle of developing a drinking problem, that is - a milkshake drinking problem.
Also, he is going to draw you. And your scenery. Probably you will receive this drawing as a gift as soon as he's done!]
