[Part 1

Homework on the weekends is just plain unfair! Luke chooses not to bring this up with his favorite teacher, however, opting instead to carry his notebook and papers and books to somewhere else to study. He considers the library, standing before its door for a while, but in the end he turns around and goes through the Welcome Center to the Tea Shop instead. The sense of bustle helps him ~~get all distracted~~ concentrate.

Plus, there's tea. He chooses an empty table and spreads out everything he'll need. As usual, this turns pretty quickly into him sitting there with a full cup of tea while he devises puzzles on paper or of paper. At the height of his distraction he builds a tower of folded paper cubes...and a gust of wind through the window scatters them all across the floor.

Then he's got to pick them up again.

Part 2

After all - or most - of his schoolwork is finished, Luke shoulders his bag and heads off to the stables. Just because Mr. Greg went home is no reason to slack in his responsibilities! He loves the horses and they tend to like him too. Besides, he brought carrots.

He greets any fellow stablehands and goes about his horsey business, picking up a rake to start on clearing one of the stalls. Of course, you've got to get the horse out of it first.

What happens next isn't quite clear to him once it's over; all he knows is that something spooked the horse and he managed to get out of the way before it kicked, and now he's on the ground with the rake's handle trapped beneath him. Pushing himself up again, he sees that the sound he heard must have been said handle half-snapping as he landed on it. Then he notices something else.

A bit shaky, he goes back to his bag and fumbles his journal out of it.]

I think there's...a bit of a problem... I'm at the- the stables and I fell and, uh...I might be hurt.

[Though he sounds unsure, it's the kind of unsure that really makes one sure.]

[[ooc: Go ahead. Break time. You know you want to. It'll be great. (Meaning, of course more than one person can find him at the tea shop/pick up papers with him/discover his fate in the stables. Have fun!)]]

What about putting down some kind of track that you can slide them along?

That would work, until they needed to move in a perpendicular direction. [He slides a few around with his fingers to demonstrate.]

Oh, right.

[Okay, now Emil is stumped. OH WELL. He tried, at least?]

Hey, don't look so sad. I'm sure there's a solution out there somewhere. ...You could always figure out my homework instead.

[He is kidding. Luke is a model student. Some subjects are just so dry.]

... that all depends on what kind of homework it is. I really don't think you want me doing your math homework for you.

[Math is so boring with all of its numbers and stuff. Why does he need to know anything besides addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division anyway?]

Oh, no, I like maths all right. This is about learning a different world's history. Or something. ...I didn't take very good notes this time.

[Now he perks up a little bit. That's the kind of subject that actually interests him!]

Another world? Do you remember which one it was?

It's someone else's in the class, I think. Um...I know I've written it down somewhere...

[Everyday I'm shufflin' through all these notebook pages.]

[No worries, Emil will just wait patiently while Luke looks!]

I'm guessing it wasn't mine.

What's yours called? [It is obviously not, though, he has Raine for World Sharing stuff and Raine did not give him her world.]

Aselia... it's the same world Raine is from. Something tells me she probably doesn't want to give people her world, though.

No, it wasn't that. Why wouldn't she want us to learn about her world, though? It must be different from Earth.

I can think of a few reasons, but I'm not sure if she'd want me talking about them. They're nothing bad or anything, just... well, they're kind of personal for her.

[Like the whole half-elf thing.]

Ohhhh. [Luke understands.] There are some things Professor Layton wouldn't want students to research either, I suppose. But...there wouldn't be any books about Professor Raine here, would there? Is she very well-known in her world?

I don't know. She did help do something pretty important, but I don't know how many people would recognize her or know who she is. I don't think she wants people making a big deal over it.

Well I wouldn't make something of it if she asked me not to. [He's occasionally a bit of a ruffian but never an outright jerk!] Besides, even though Professor Layton's famous as an archaeologist, I don't think he really wants something like that either.

I think that's true of a lot of teacher-types. They do what they do because they love it, not because they want attention for it.

So they love punishing their students with piles and piles of homework too.

I think that part is just because they're sadists.

Wh-what! You really think that?

Maybe not quite that bad, but why else would they give us so much homework?

It's supposed to help us learn everything.

[Luke doesn't think it's a lot of homework, really. Then again, he lives with one of the teachers.]

Yeah, but why do we have to do twenty of the same kind of math problem if we already understand how to do the first one?

[School is not really Emil's thing.]

Because they're all different, or there might be a trick to a few of them that'll stop you if you just do them the same as the first one.

...You don't have school in your world, do you? But no, that can't be possible because Professor Raine was a teacher already. Unless you just have University?

We have school, I just... never went to it. The closest thing I ever had was Raine teaching us some things and giving us homework while we were traveling.

... I don't see why we needed to do homework when we had something a lot more important to be doing.
